What is BlockPOS?
BlockPOS is a POS engine and decentralised retail data management system designed to support a sales data driven ecosystem. In addition to handling conventional POS tasks when necessary, BlockPOS pushes all sales data to its purpose built blockchain, encrypting and storing it. Access to this data is controlled by store owners. With necessary access rights, cross-businesses can seamlessly build applications that work on past and realtime sales data. Applications can also be built on top of other applications with their own access right schemes.

The Problem
The Problem
As it stands, retailers have to do manual integrations for most sales modules. These include customer identity solutions (i.e. for loyalty programs), sales enhancing AI implementations (such as product recommendations), authenticity tracking for high value products or brands, after-sale product lifecycle tracking (i.e. for sustainability programs or upcoming Digital Product Passport regulations), customer data protection based on local regulations (i.e. GDPR) to name a few.
Bigger scale retailers usually develop and maintain in house solutions for these while smaller scale retailers generally pay for these as external services.
Moreover, most retail sales data is stored on centralised databases with its validity and management relying on trust assumptions or enforcement mechanisms, making it infeasible and costly to design systems where cross-brand or cross-business applications have to work together.

The Solution
The Solution
BlockPOS aims to utilise blockchain to foster a cross-brand and cross-business retail ecosystem thereby standardising and solving most of today's retail problems at POS level while building on frameworks that are ready for tomorrow's issues.
With BlockPOS, sales data is collected at POS level such that each data entry corresponds to a finalised receipt. This data lives on-chain, encrypted. Retail sales data now being decentralised paves the way for something new with untapped potential: Cross-brands and cross-businesses can design systems that seamlessly integrate each other in a trustless environment while utilising sales data.
Certain key modules are built into the BlockPOS Engine, both to address the aforementioned issues as well as to serve as examples of what can be achieved with a trustless retail data driven ecosystem.

Features & Use Cases
Features & Use Cases
AI & Embeddings
AI & Embeddings
BlockPOS maintains two forms of vector databases. One is store-bound, where store catalogue item embeddings are kept, the other is the entire product space within BlockPOS ecosystem. The backend serves an API that can combine and pull batches from both DBs. This allows for seamless integration of embedding based AI models powered by retail sales data.

AI Use Case
AI Use Case
AI driven one-off promotions and discounts offered at point of sale. Anonymous customers are served based on cart contents and store profile. Customers with digital IDs are served based on their embedding profiles across all BlockPOS enabled stores. This leads to unique cross-store shopping journeys for customers where promotions offered at one store are derived from what the customer has purchased on other stores and brands.

Trustless Data Marketplace
Trustless Data Marketplace
Sales data is encrypted and kept on a purpose built blockchain, called Retailism Chain. Data owners (store owners by default) control access to their data. Applications working on retail sales data request access through a Web3 platform. Data access process can either be fully on chain or accompanied by conventional business practises as desired.

Data Use Case
Data Use Case
Precise sales tracking for producers. Small to mid level producers have no reliable means of continuously tracking actual consumption based sales but instead rely on sales data coming from suppliers and other middleman entities. Since each sales data entry in Retailism Chain corresponds to a finalised receipt, producers can use this data to keep live track of their products' market success, manage production capacity, tune pricing etc. as well as to offer localised deals to best performing retailers.

Verifiable product authenticity systems can be built on top of BlockPOS. While high valued products usually come with their own authenticity tracking systems, utilising BlockPOS for this would provide a means of verifying authenticity in second hand sales. Brands can maintain digital marketplaces built on top of Retailism Chain to foster such practises.

Retailism Chain also holds pre-sale data on a per-product basis. This allows for on-chain information to be attached to every product. Such information can come all the way from the production line to second hand sales as well as from dedicated supply chain systems' integrations.

Circular value chain programs such as Digital Product Passports. Such programs can utilise Retailism Chain in a way that covers the entire lifecycle of a product, including returned products that have been used in production. Existing supply chain tracking systems can integrate with BlockPOS to keep tracking a product even after it has been sold.
